STORIES FROM CLIENTS

“MY DAUGHTER’S VOCABULARY EXPLODED”

Sarah has been treating my daughter for 2.5 years, and now my son for over a year. When she first started treating my daughter, she only had about thirty words in her vocabulary, at age two and a half.

Sarah quickly diagnosed her and explained her reasoning and treatment plan. After only a few sessions did we realize how truly special Sarah is. My daughter’s vocabulary exploded, and she was constantly giving us suggestions for exercises at home.

We tried to implement all of her suggestions the best that we could, and now we have a 5-year-old who won’t stop talking. She still sees Sarah for some articulation issues, but she is very close to age appropriate speech levels going into kindergarten.

We are so thankful for Sarah. She is amazing with kids, trustworthy, compassionate, and yields measurable results. We couldn’t be happier with her, and I have recommended her services as often as I can, and will continue to do so.

“ACTIVELY WORK TOWARDS PROGRESSING WITH IEP GOALS”

This is our second Summer having Sarah work with our two kids, Max & Emily (ages 8 & 7). They don’t qualify for Summer Speech Therapy at School; however, it is so important that they continue with a Speech Therapist during the 2.5-month break. It is necessary to help bridge the gap to actively work towards progressing with IEP goals. Sarah carefully analyzes their IEPs and incorporates those goals into their Summer Speech plans.

She is truly incredible at what she does. She has such in-depth knowledge and an amazing touch with Max and Emily who are both on the Autism Spectrum and have Sensory Processing Disorder. She also provides me with an explanation and tools so I can continue to help them at home.

She is upbeat/positive, patient and professional. Her heart shines through when I watch her working with them. They love how she rewards them after working hard by playing a fun game together.

We’ve had many Speech Therapists through the years starting when Max was 3 years old and Emily was only 2....Sarah Myers is truly one of the best! We are so thankful to have found her.

“My child's speech and language skills have skyrocketed”

Karen is an excellent speech therapist. My child looks forward to every therapy session with her! She is just like Mary Poppins, pulling fun and applicable activities out of her bag.

My child’s speech and language skills have skyrocketed in the time that she has been our therapist. She always challenges my child with higher order thinking questions that I wouldn’t think about using during our play time.

I really appreciate that she gives us manageable goals to work on between sessions. This helps me feel like I am an active team member. Karen is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend her therapy services.

“COMMUNICATION HAS IMPROVED SO MUCH”

We are so thrilled to be working with Way To Grow Pediatric Therapy. I am so proud of the progress our son makes every day and every week in between sessions.

It’s so different when your first kid is an absolute chatter box and the other needs a little extra help. We were at a point where we were really all frustrated because we didn’t know what Oliver wanted and he couldn’t get us to understand what he needed.

Sarah really individualizes the tasks & goals for his everyday needs in a way that’s fun for him. It’s a nice reminder for me of how to approach different things and items to break it down to help him form words easier. Communication has improved so much, that even other family can talk back and forth with him now- and they understand each other! And both the boys think the games she brings are pretty fun, too!

If you have any worry that your kiddo needs a little boost, reach out to Way To Grow! We’re so glad we did!

“HE’S NOW USING WORDS AND PHRASES TO COMMUNICATE HIS NEEDS”

I was worried about my son’s lack of speech shortly after his first birthday. We had him evaluated through the Early Intervention System and found out my suspicions were correct—he was, in fact, behind in his speech development.

We’ve been working with Miss Sarah for about nine months now and WOW what a difference we have seen! Weston absolutely loves her and stands at the front door waiting for her to pull up every week.

His communication has done a total 180—he’s now using words and phrases to communicate his needs instead of crying, and is able to express his wants/needs much more clearly. We cannot thank Miss Sarah enough!

“She adapted her techniques to what Kole needed”

Kole is the youngest of four. He has siblings who have always done the talking for him or translated his speech for others to understand. He is a very strong-willed child who can be slow to warm-up to strangers.

When Kole started with Sarah it was very much on his terms and slow progress. Sarah respected and catered to those needs, but nonchalantly challenged Kole. She adapted her techniques to what Kole needed and he enjoyed her loving, soft approach. The bond was made, ground rules were set, and that’s when Kole hit the ground running with his speech progress.

Sarah provided great “homework” for our family to use in between sessions. Kole began to implement his speech sound cues on his own that Sarah taught him. This allowed him to become less frustrated and more patient when he was asked to repeat himself, if his speech clarity was decreased.

We love Sarah— she has become a close family friend and will always be Kole’s “WeeWah.” Not sure how he is going to manage without his weekly date, but I know Sarah has made a lasting positive impression for Kole’s future that we are forever thankful for.

“I felt for the first time that he was in a professional's hands that truly cared about him and his future”

When we first were evaluated with EI Jason was said to be 9 months at a cognitive level. I had no idea where to start or how to help him. He was playing with toys in ways that they were not intended to be played with, throwing everything that he touched, not responding to his name, not talking at all, and overall seemed to be in his own little world.

When Ms. Karen came into Jason’s life, I felt for the first time that he was in a professional’s hands that truly cared about him and his future. She helped with breakthroughs for Jason before any other therapy was started. It started with signing “more” until one day he sat in my husband’s lap and said “Daddy!” clear as day.

Jason now looks and responds. He signs to communicate his wants with food, play, and to make choices. We are working on communication but he does say words clearly and in the appropriate context, such as greeting me in the morning with “mama” or walking up to a tree and saying “trees.” Karen has even co-treated with his OT in order to learn Jason’s specific sensory needs to better help and teach him.

He builds blocks, plays with puzzles, follows instructions, and completes sequences. She is truly a god-send into my son’s life. I would recommend her and “Way to Grow Pediatric Therapy” to any parent and child.

“I remember many silent days wondering what he was thinking”

Sarah is amazing at what she does. I could not imagine anyone being better.

My son loved Sarah and never felt like he was working on his speech but playing with a friend. She cared about his entire development and person.

She is fun, dedicated, smart, highly educated, and knowledgeable. I felt like Sarah would have done anything in her power and extensive knowledge to help my son find his voice. I completely credit her with my son’s ability to use his voice.

Often when I hear him sing or tell me a story, I remember many silent days wondering what he was thinking. Sarah gave my son and my family one of the greatest gifts we could possibly ever receive-my son’s voice.

My son tells people about his time in speech therapy, “It was hard for me to learn to talk, but I went to speech school with Sarah and she helped me.”
I would recommend her 100%.

“Her toolbox of suggestions and methods is endless!”

Sarah is absolutely amazing at what she does. She has extensive knowledge and a gifted ability to use play to assess/teach your child speech skills. She also gives thorough explanations to parents so you can continue to help your child at home. Her toolbox of suggestions and methods is endless!

Her demeanor is absolutely professional, but also so down to earth and friendly. She is positive, patient, and caring with her kiddos. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

“We will be forever grateful for all of her help and support.”

Our family just adores Sarah! We have three boys and they all love it when Miss Sarah comes over. Sarah has actually worked with two of our boys and will soon be working with our youngest.

She became our oldest son’s speech therapist right before he was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. She’s been working with him for three years now and has been an incredible resource for us throughout those years.

She recently went with us to our son’s IEP meeting for kindergarten and I am so thankful for that. It was a comfort having her there to help ask questions and discuss various strategies to help him thrive at school.

We will be forever grateful for all of her help and support.
— Chelsea Dooley, Peoria, IL

“She is so thorough in her evaluations”

Sarah has helped my son, Austin so much! She is so knowledgeable, patient and kind. She is so thorough in her evaluations and has addressed any concern with his speech that we have. Austin loves his sessions with her and we are so happy with the progress he has made.
— Sara Howard, Mapleton, IL

“we are confident in knowing that she'll be at the same speech level as the other children”

Sarah has been an amazing teacher for our daughter, Grace. She has been extremely consistent with her sessions and has been patient with us as we saw slow and steady growth over the last year. Grace has grown leaps and bounds, in the comfort of our home, and I know that without Sarah’s expertise and love of children, Grace would not be where she is today.

Grace will begin school this Fall and we are confident in knowing that she’ll be at the same speech level as the other children. Thank you, Miss Sarah!
— Grace's Mom

“we love the play project!!!”

We love the PLAY Project!!! I would recommend to anybody and/or everyone who has or works with a young autistic child. We have been able to have so many more connections and positive days since using PLAY Project techniques and have fully incorporated his PLAY Plan into our everyday life. Thank you so much for your support!
